B24 News Agency is an independent news outlet based in Brussels. It covers Belgian, European, international and African news, as well as diaspora life, in French, Dutch and English. This charter sets out the principles that guide our work and the commitments we make to our readers.
The newsroom alone decides what it publishes. No advertiser, partner, political party, government or interest group can impose, alter or prevent the publication of an article. We accept no gifts or benefits that could influence our coverage.
We check facts before publishing them and cross-check sensitive information with several sources. We name our sources whenever possible. When information has not yet been confirmed, we say so clearly. Headlines, standfirsts and captions never distort the content of the article.
We clearly separate news from opinion. Analysis, editorials, columns and op-eds are labelled as such. Op-eds by outside contributors reflect the views of their authors, not those of the newsroom.
When an article makes allegations against a person or organisation, we give them the opportunity to respond before publication. Anyone named or criticised may exercise their right of reply under the Belgian law of 23 June 1961 by writing to us through our contact form.
We respect privacy, dignity and the presumption of innocence. We only publish the name or image of a suspect, a victim or a minor when the public interest justifies it. We reject any stigmatisation based on origin, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or social situation.
We protect the confidentiality of our sources, in accordance with the Belgian law of 7 April 2005 on the protection of journalistic sources. A source is only granted anonymity when there is a serious reason to do so, and the newsroom always knows their identity.
Advertising is always kept separate from editorial content. Ads appear in dedicated spaces. Any content produced in partnership or for payment is clearly labelled as such. An advertiser can never review or approve an article before publication.
Images faithfully reflect the facts reported and their source is credited. We never alter a news photo in a way that changes its meaning. AI tools may help us translate, transcribe or proofread, but every article is reviewed and approved by a member of the newsroom before publication. Any AI-generated image is always labelled as such.
Our articles may be published in French, Dutch and English. Translated versions faithfully reflect the meaning of the original article.
When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article, with the date. To report an error, please use our contact form.
Our work is based on the Code of Journalistic Ethics of the Conseil de déontologie journalistique (CDJ), the Belgian press council for French-language media. If you believe one of our articles does not meet these principles, please contact us first. You can also file a complaint with the CDJ at lecdj.be.
